Layout

I am by no means a layout artist, so this was possibly the most challenging thing I've done in a long while but what I've learnt from it has certainly been invaluable. I can't say I'm 100% happy with the result but it's been a long time since I used Photoshop in this way, and looking at my old digital pieces and this, I see a lot of improvement! Anyway, this was a final project for one of our assignments at uni - only 4 days and the first year will be over. This makes me sad. But the prospect of being able to sleep properly, and unlimited time to study what I want/need to study, makes me excited!

  2. You are "by no means a layout artist"? Looking at this I'm starting have some serious doubts about that, cause I think this turned out amazing :D

I love the color pallete you used, as well as the lighting and the design itself! Really gorgeous work, Kat!

  3. This is lovely! Great mood and atmosphere from the subtle colours and the style and design qualities add so much to the image! Reminds me of the designs from 'The Secret of Kells' which are awesome!

  4. Thanks for the comments guys! I appreciate it. I personally think the colours were a lucky mistake - but hey!
James - Secret of Kells is an amazing film! I only just got round to watching it recently, perhaps I was subconsciously influenced... hmmmmm.

  5. this was my favorite layout from our whole year. who was your artist and what inspired the style? how did you get everything to look so clean and well un-photoshop i guess if you know what i mean? is it because you worked in textures rather than just using block colors??

  6. Thanks so much Meredith! Inspiration was widespread and varied - the wonderful work of Ryan Lang, The Secret of Kells and the rather "skewiff" buildings in Tangled, for want of a better word! I don't know how it doesn't look unPhotoshop, I guess perhaps that I used the original sketch and painted underneath it? I deliberately tried to shade quite clean, which meant brushstrokes aren't as noticeable. Textures were a final touch and just helped things seem less clean and refined. :)
